Mississippi Rises, Georgia Falls in NCAA College Football ranking

Georgia dropped significantly in this week’s USA TODAY Sports NCAA Re-Rank, going down 10 spots to No. 13 after a 28-10 loss to the Rebels, who climbed to No. 12. Alabama also moved up five spots to No. 10 after a strong 42-13 win over LSU.

This shift is expected, as Georgia lost to both the Rebels and Crimson Tide on the road. Last month’s win against Texas helps keep Georgia just above No. 13 Texas A&M, another SEC team with two losses.

The SEC still has strong representation near the top. Oregon is No. 1, followed by Ohio State at No. 2, Texas at No. 3, Penn State at No. 4, and Tennessee at No. 5. Notre Dame is No. 6, Indiana is No. 7, and BYU is No. 8.

Miami also fell in this week’s rankings to No. 9 after a close 28-23 loss to Georgia Tech. Miami is still the highest-ranked team in the ACC, just ahead of No. 11 SMU.

Some other teams saw big moves in the rankings. Falling were No. 22 Iowa State (down 10), No. 25 LSU (down 11), No. 35 Iowa (down 10), and No. 57 Florida (down 12). Teams moving up include No. 24 Colorado (up 10), No. 30 Georgia Tech (up 14), and No. 84 UCLA (up 16).
